I write the ticker first because in our world the ticker always comes first. I reviewed Monsanto on my favorite stock forum, Motley Fool's CAPS. The majority of people writing comments on Monsanto give the stock a green thumb up and speak highly of the company. There are also quite a few CAPS players who who have high CAPS scores who think highly of the company.
I must let everybody know that Monsanto may not be a corrupt company (financially), but certainly the management has made some terrible decisions in the past. I read studies and have watched a few documentaries in my Sociology/Globalization courses about genetically modified seeds/crops and monopolistic strategies both by company and products. As a naturalist/compassionate person, I hate the company. As an investor, I love the company. As a rational human being: I gotta eat!
If I could make money on Monsanto's profiteering I would. However, I do believe a small percentage of risk lies in their poor business decisions. Ultimately, investors should be safe with this global monster as capital has come before people so many times in the recent term development of globalization, the past 200 years.
